What is BCIA?
The Biofeedback Certification International Alliance (BCIA) certifies individuals who meet education and training standards in neurofeedback. The BCIA is recognized by the Association of Applied Psychophysiology and Biofeedback (AAPB), the Biofeedback Federation of Europe (BFE), and the International Society for Neuroregulation and Research (ISNR).
What training is required to become BCIA certified?
All certified individuals will have gone through courses on the brain and central nervous system function passed a neurofeedback specific certification exam and completed 36 hours or more of coursework on neurofeedback. The coursework includes neuroanatomy, instruments and electronics, research, patient assessments, treatment protocols, treatment implementations, and more. Each BCIA certified practitioner has undergone mentoring by a leader in neurofeedback and so has developed relationships with others in the field where they can cooperate professionally regarding neurofeedback cases and advancements. Continuing education is available through BCIA so each certified practitioner can continue to stay apprised of developments and research within the field and continuing education is required to advance the certification to higher levels, distinguishing practitioners who have experience and knowledge within the field and elevating them above their peers.
