What is Neurofeedback?

How Does Neurofeedback Work?

Imagine how great your life would be if you were in complete control of how you respond to all of your day-to-day situations? Able to be in control of your thoughts and moods, regardless of your day-to-day stresses? Neurofeedback training can help your brain learn how to do just that!

Neurofeedback utilizes a safe, non-invasive process for measuring and improving your brainwave patterns. Two small sensors are lightly placed on your scalp, using conductive gel. Our computerized software then records your brain wave function and uses real-time feedback to help your brain learn to think more efficiently.

All you have to do is sit back, relax, and watch a movie!

During your brain training session, you will be watching a video, accompanied by an audio input. Using a method known as “operant conditioning”, small changes in the audio and visual inputs are created in response to your brainwave measurements that, over time, help teach your brain to create new, healthier brainwave patterns.

Balanced Brainwaves = Balanced Mood, Better Cognitive Function

The software compares your brainwave patterns to that of more optimal brainwave distributions for someone of the same age. If your brainwave patterns go outside the desired range, it creates a change in the audio or video inputs. Your brain automatically detects this, and refocuses itself back into the optimal pattern, balancing your brainwaves.

The training is painless, and most of our patients really enjoy the process.   Sessions usually last 30 minutes.

Remember when you first learned to ride a bike, or how to swim? When you started, you probably were not very good at it. However, over time, with practice and feedback, you mastered the skill needed to do it properly, right? Neurofeedback works in precisely that same manner. The feedback is not physical, but audio and visual in nature. It`s also much faster and more effective since it uses the direct real-time measurement of your brainwave activity for the feedback loop itself.

Even better, just like learning a life skill like riding a bike, the new pathways created during training are permanent, leading to long-term improvements in brain activity.
